6 Day Climbing Mount Kenya via Sirimon Chogoria Route. The trekking through this route ensure you with maximum summit rate. the terrain is moderate and hence make it preferred by many climbers. The route may be hiked over 7 days or 5 days depending on the wish of trekkers. But 6 days is mostly recommended as it include extra day for acclimatization.

DAY 1: Mount Kenya on the first days to Old Moses
This is the beginning of 6 Day Climbing Mount Kenya. Depart your hotel in Nairobi after breakfast and drive to Nanyuki. From here it is around 15km to the Sirimon park gate (2700m). Picnic lunch will be served at the gate. After signing in with the park officials we will start an acclimatization hike which will see us walking in the tropical forest, occasionally enjoying the sighting of a monkey, a buffalo or even an elephant arriving at the Old Moses (Judmaier) camp (3200 m) late evening. DAY 2: Mount Kenya on the first days to Liki North.
After breakfast, we start the hike of the moorland vegetation walking through the picturesque views of the Sirimon and the Mackinders valleys arriving at the Liki North Hut in the early afternoon. Lunch at this camp and later take an acclimatization walk around the camp. Overnight Liki North Camp (breakfast – lunch – dinner)
DAY 3: Mount kenya on the first days to Shiptons.
Start the hike of the steep slope towards the Shiptons camp (4200m) arriving in time for lunch. The giant groundsels occurring along this route are some of the spectacular views on the Mt.Kenya. DAY 4: Mount Kenya on the forth day to Austrian Hut.
Depart the Shipton’s after breakfast and make peak-circuit navigation to the Austrian hut (4790m). On the way enjoy the views of the Simba col; and the Lewis glacier arriving at the Top hut in time for a hot lunch. Afternoon at leisure, dinner and overnight at the camp. DAY 5: Mount Kenya on the fifth day to The lodge.
At 04.30 hrs, wake up and have some tea and biscuits. Start the attempt of the summit peak (The point Lenana, alt 4985m) which is the highlight of our trip! Take photos with the African sunrise and its also possible to see the Mt Kilimanjaro to the West if the weather is clear. Descend down to the Mintos camp (4100m), where we will have some breakfast. Descend further down to the Meru Mt.Kenya Lodge (2700m) where we will spend the night. Overnight Mt Kenya Lodge (breakfast – lunch – dinner)
DAY 6: The End of Mount Kenya Hiking
Depart the lodge after breakfast and walk through the spectacular bamboo forest to connect with the 4×4 vehicle to Chogoria town where we will connect with our transfer vehicle to Nairobi.

When to Trek Mount Kenya
Mount Kenya is approximately 200km north of Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, and is comfortably accessible by road using a variety of transport options – buses, mini buses, taxi cab or a car hire will get you close to the mountain on the tarred roads to the nearest town: Naromoru town for Naro Moru route, Nanyuki town for Sirimon route and Chogoria town for Chogoria route. Although, Mount Kenya can be climbed all year round, the highest rainfall occurs between late March and the middle of May, and slightly less between late October and mid December. Maximum rainfall occurs in the forest belt and on the south-east side of the mountain where it reaches 2500 mm. per year at 3000 m. Rain and, higher up, snow can however be encountered at any time of year – even in the driest periods (January and February). Normally the drier seasons are associated with clear, dry weather which can last for many days on end. The best weather is generally in the mornings, and convectional rainfall, if any, tends to come in the mid-afternoon.
Temperatures vary considerably with height and with time of day. At 3000 m. frosts can be encountered at night while day temperatures range from 5 to 15°C. Night time temperatures on the summit are well below freezing. The south-facing side of Mount Kenya receives more sunshine in the December to March period. During this time rock climbs are “in-condition” and snow and ice climbs gradually deteriorate. In the June to October period the north-facing rock climbs and south-facing ice climbs are best.
It’s safest to climb Mt. Kenya during the dry seasons: January – February and August to September off the most reliably fine weather. The main routes are likely to be more crowded at this time of the year. If you favor complete solitude over the sunny skies, try going slightly off the peak season. It’s best to avoid the two rainy seasons from mid March until June and from late October to the end of December.
The routes are Naromoru route, Sirimon route and Chogoria route and each of which has something different to offer.
6 Day Climbing Mount Kenya Naromoru route – The fastest route to point Lenana but not as scenic as the other two. It is often overcrowded with many climbers since it’s the most popular route compared to Chogoria route and Sirimon route.
6 Day Climbing Mount Kenya Chogoria route – This is the most scenic and interesting of the three main routes on the mountain.
The route passes the enchanting Hall Tarns and looks down sheer cliffs into the spectacular Gorges Valley and onto the beautiful Lake Michaelson.
